Kim O. Morgan sent a message to William H. Rogers, Jr. - Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust Banks - Email Address that said:
Today, I discovered that $2,471.80 was taken out of our savings account, and $730.39 was taken out of our checking.
When I contacted SunTrust, I was told this was a garnishment from Glasser Glasser and that it is legal in the state of VA.
We were given no notice of this garnishment. In addition, it is my understanding that the law states that while checking accounts may be garnished, savings accounts cannot.
We put this money in our savings in good faith with SunTrust. We did NOT authorize this money to be taken out of our account. Now we have no savings and no way to pay our mortgage or bills.
SunTrusts response was that it is your policy to allow this to happen. We now have no faith in SunTrust and could possibly lose our home and have our utilities cut off. SunTrust has allowed food to be taken out of my childs mouth!
We are in the middle of attempting to sort this out. But we do not intend to keep any kind of accounts with SunTrust once this is resolved. And we will speak to a lawyer to see if it is legal for our savings account to be raided like this.
We are VERY disappointed with SunTrust.
