KIM sent a message to David P. King Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings Email Address that said:
Dear Mr. King,
I am the Administrator for an Ambulatory Surgery Center in Morehead City, NC. Our center was forced to turn to LabCorp for our pathology for BCBS patients because BCBS of NC and our local hospital are on the outs as of February 1st. We were guaranteed that LabCorp could meet our needs and I am telling you - LabCorp CANNOT.
The icing on the cake came today after we were searching for results for a specimen sent on February 26th. Patient underwent an EGD (scope down to her stomach) a specimen was taken and a CLO test was ordered. I assure you this is not the first one we have sent to LabCorp. We called today because the patient is following up the doctor in his office and he wants to review the results. After multiple calls our Clinical Coordinator was told that LabCorp didnt know what the test was...and had not done anything with the specimen. NO ONE CALLED THE CENTER TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS NEEDED EITHER...YOUR REP TOLD US TO GET ANOTHER SPECIMEN!!! I hope you realize this patient had to fast and be put to sleep in order to have this specimen taken.
The service we have received has been horrible!!! We were forced into this situation in order for our patients to receive pathology results from an in-network provider. This was an great opportunity for LabCorp and LabCorp failed!
I would like to know how you and your company are going to handle this patient and doctor and if we just need to notify our BCBS patients that LabCorp cannot handle the pathology and they will have to pay out of network pricing through the hospital?
