John sent a message to Daniel Dan Gilbert, Chairman and founder of Rock Ventures email address that said:
Good day sir! I am writing to you not to complain but because there was a situation that left me very distraught and discouraged. I am the former midnight shift security supervisor from Greektown casino. I normally wouldn't say anything but this incident has been bothering me so bad it is causing me to be stressed out and even lose sleep. I was instructed(word of mouth) from my superiors to get the police to issue a repeat trespasser, and by repeat I mean this guy was on or around casino property everyday, either a citation or an arrest next time he was on property. Well he came onto the property and I was notified. I in turn notified the police and while awaiting their usual slow response the trespasser attempted to leave the premises. I informed him he could not leave until the police arrived which lead to a minor scuffle between us. When all was said and done I had to defend myself and restrain the trespasser in handcuffs until the police finally came and issued the trespasser a citation. Shortly after this incident I was suspended and terminated. I am not looking for hand out or asking for my old job back although it has been extremely difficult for me to find work since there is a termination listed on my record. The reason for my termination as it was explained to me wasn't even about the incident going physical. The assistant security director John Autrey stated that he had no problem that the incident went "hands on" but the issue was a minor policy violation of not letting a repeat tresasser, who I was instructed to get issued a citation or arrested, walk out the door and exit property. I am not sure if this makes any sense or if this is common practice but I feel that due to my exemplary service in the casino industry and especially the past 3 years I put in at greektown should account for something. Now if I was wrong I do admit I should have been disciplined but I feel termination was very extreme and I am seriously upset about the whole situation because I truly feel I was trying to do what was right and just. I am not a bully and I do not go looking for trouble, but I am sure as you already know the casino business is a beast and is extremely difficult to manage and operate when dealing with the general public and specifically trespassers and vagrants. I do apologize for taking too much of you time because like I said I am not trying to complain or whine but I thought this might be something you may want to look into. I truly believe that your isms and your culture is the future and wish I could have seen all the construction and refurbishing you are doing at Greektown completed. You motivate me and I am truly impressed on your success and what you have done not only for my home, the great city of Detroit but everywhere you are rooted and are implementing your business strategy. It has been a great honor and privilege to say that I have worked for you and one of your companies and I have learned a lot from your business culture and your isms philosophy. Thank you for the opportunity you have given me and I am sorry I couldn't have grown further with you and your family of companies. Very much respect, John
