Warner Baxter is chairman, president and chief executive officer of St. Louis-based Ameren Corporation, parent company of rate-regulated utilities that serve more than 2.4 million electric and nearly 900,000 natural gas customers in Illinois and Missouri. The company, which also develops regional electric transmission projects, had 2014 revenues in excess of $6 billion.
Baxter joined Union Electric in August 1995 as assistant controller, was named controller in 1996, and after the merger of Union Electric and CIPSCO Incorporated in 1997, he became vice president and controller. In 2001, Baxter was named senior vice president of finance.
From 2003 to 2009, Baxter was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Ameren Corporation, where he led the finance, strategic planning and business risk management functions of the entire enterprise. In 2007, Baxter assumed additional duties as president and CEO of Ameren Services. From 2009 to early 2014, he served as president and CEO of Ameren Missouri, the largest energy provider in Missouri.
Before joining Ameren, Baxter served as senior manager in PricewaterhouseCooper’s LLP national office in New York City from 1993 to 1995, serving as one of the firm’s liaisons with the major accounting standard setting bodies in the United States. From 1983 to 1993, Baxter worked in the firm’s St. Louis office, where he provided auditing and consulting services to clients in a variety of industries.
Ameren Corporation was created December 31, 1997 by the merger of Missouri's Union Electric Company (formerly NYSE: UEP) and the neighboring Central Illinois Public Service Company (CIPSCO Inc. holding, formerly NYSE: CIP).[4] It is now a holding company for several power companies and energy companies. The company is based in St. Louis, Missouri, serving 2.4 million electric, and 900,000 natural gas customers across 64,000 square miles[5]
