North Carolina sent a message to Michael J. Ward Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CSX Corporation Email Address that said:
Consider bringing the intermodal terminal that you planned to bring to Johnston County, NC to Columbus County, NC. Columbus County is the site of Southeast Regional Park which is 158 acres. Carolina Southern Railroad, which has been purchased by R.J. Corman Group, runs through the county and connects to the CSX mainline near Mullins, SC. Columbus County is also linked to the North Carolina state port of Wilmington, NC by U.S. Highway 74/U.S. Highway 76. Columbus County was formerly linked to Wilmington by a rail line that was abandoned in the 1970s. Amtrak is being asked to bring passenger rail service to the Columbus County town of Chadbourn, which will be where R.J. Corman Railroad Group plans to base its operations in the area. There are many people in Columbus County who want to work. There has been great interest in the Vertex Rail Technologies jobs in Wilmington, NC among Columbus County residents but there are only so many of those jobs to go around. Bringing the intermodal terminal that you planned to bring to Johnston County to Columbus County would be a win-win for both Columbus County and CSX. Thank you for your consideration.
