Carol sent a message to Carol Meyrowitz President and CEO, TJX Companies, Inc. that said:
Dear Ms. Meyrowitz,
I want to make you aware of a situation that occurred in a tjmaxx last night. A young cashier rang up a customer's credit card purchase. On the receipt, in place of his name, the customer drew a crude cartoon of a penis. The clerk took the receipt and the man started walking off. The clerk realized what was on the receipt and was shocked. The man was laughing as he was walking away, and the clerk -- upset and shocked -- said "Very funny!" in that way that we all do when someone has pulled a dirty trick on us. Now, I understand that the clerk is in trouble for not stopping the man. Excuse me, but can you tell me how, in a state of surprise and shock, she was supposed to engage and control this customer? Can you really explain to me her obligation? Was she supposed to jump the counter and tackle the customer? Or was she supposed to call him back (when any girl or woman would have wanted to flee this man)? I was in the store. I would love to know your response.
