Steve and Debra sent a message to Martin Winterkorn CEO, Volkswagen Group that said:
On January 24th, 2016 our 2010 VW Jetta TDI broke down with no warning. This well-maintained Jetta (we have all of our service records) had been running fine; there were no warning lights to indicate any problems. We used our 2.0 TDI Customer Goodwill Package to have the vehicle towed to Findlay Volkswagen in Flagstaff. Their initial assessment is that oil bypassed the turbo, which is now inoperative, traveled through the intake, and went into the charge air system, causing the engine to become hydro-locked. They estimate that the initial repair will be $5,500 to replace the turbo, clean the system, and perform the necessary compression and other testing. Furthermore, there is a high probability that they will find that the engine will also need to be replaced, which would cost an additional $7,000.
My husband and I purchased this vehicle on 1/2/11 with an odometer reading of 189 miles. With our confidence in VWâs outstanding reputation, we had planned to enjoy this vehicle for 200,000+ miles. We took outstanding care of this vehicle with the last regular maintenance dated 11-2-2015.
When we received our 2.0 TDI Customer Goodwill Package we were surprised to see a free tow package included. So it is safe to deduce that the 2.0 TDI matter is resulting in issues similar to the one we are experiencing.
We would like to request that you assist us in bringing this young vehicle back to life. With a Kelly Blue Book value of approximately $8,300, it doesnât make sense for us to invest more money into repairing a vehicle than it would be worth after the repairs are completed. While we will continue to explore the options available to us, we would prefer to resolve this issue directly with Volkswagen so that we may regain our confidence in you.
