Wendy sent a message to Robert L. Edwards – Chief Executive Officer and President at Safeway Inc. – Email Address that said:
I am writing this letter not only as a consumer that will never set foot in one of your stores again and will encourage friends as well. Also, as a mother that has watched her son work his butt off for a company that does not reciprocate the loyalty that he has given them. He has been there for almost 2 years. After his first year anniversary he started inquiring about a raise. He was told that he would have to be promoted from helper clerk ( because apparently those people are not eligible for raises) So supposedly this was done. So, then my son started inquiring about a raise again. His department manager said that he had talked to the store manager and it was in the works… Weeks go by, Nothing
He inquires again, he calls his union rep Peggy that said she saw something come across her desk. Because while she does not know crap or do crap for the people that are paying her to work for them. She apparently is in the loop when someone is getting promoted or getting a raise. ( probably so she can extort more money) Peggy told my son to go to his store manager and ask for the date that the raise request was submitted. ( how do I know this? I was in the reps office with my son) My son goes to Rob Olson( store manager) and is told that the wage request was submitted 3/13/16 and it was in process of approval and when it is approved it will be retroactive to that date. My son asked to see documentation and Rob showed him an email sent to Jackie ( enter last name here) and gave him a form that he printed out. The rate of pay that he told my son was wrong, it said increase to 11 when he told my son 11.47 but my son just wanted his raise. He wanted acknowledgement that Safeway appreciated the good job that he has done. He has checked his stub every week hoping it would be there. Let down when it was not. 2 weeks ago he again called his “ union rep” because it still had not gone through. Peggy says she talked to Rob Olson and there was some sort of hiccup in Arizona. “ It should be on next weeks check” Next week comes nothing. I feel so bad for my son, I feel his frustration and his anger. I start calling people in your company HR calls my son back and low and behold an wage increase was never submitted. NEVER SUBMITTED Read that line again and again. Do you know how he felt? Read it again. AND, WAIT FOR IT! The promotion status to move him from helper clerk to produce clerk was submitted in May 2016. So let this all sink in, Jackie and then tell me why he should continue working for a company that has lied to him. WEEK AFTER WEEK AFTER WEEK. Like it’s some sort of sick joke. I have reamed everyone I can think of for this blatant lack of respect for an employee. But also I have encouraged my son to file a wage complaint with Labor and Industries.
It is sickening what you have done or in this case NOT done. My son has been saving for a car. I kept telling just wait when that retroactive check comes you can add it to your savings and have a bigger down payment. I said. it was kind of like money in the bank you can’t touch. We had no idea he was being lied to. USED. That is a horrible way to treat your employees. That is a hard store to get good people. He has stuck in there for almost 2 years. He liked working in the produce, he liked his job. He wants his raise and he wants his retro pay back to 3/13/16. If L and I recommends that we get an attorney , you best believe we will.
