Charles sent a message to Terry J. Lundgren Chairman, President, and CEO, Macys, Inc. – email address that said:
Good Morning Mr Lundgren, I rarely take measures as this but I am very concerned as to the direction of your company in regards to the impersonal customer service my wife i received yesterday in your White Plains,NY store. We were attempting to purchase 2 pairs of Ray Ban sunglasses due to the promotion of buying 2 pairs and receiving a $40 discount. However, when we were met at that department, after we were greeted and asked if there was anything they could do to help us , we stated what we were looking to purchase. The salesperson (male) made a minimal attempt to assist us and could only find one pair of the glasses we needed and painstakingly searched a box with no results. The other salesperson (female) faked looking in a cabinet while the third salesperson (female) just looked at us and kept proclaiming that there were no more available except the one on display, and that had a scratched lens. It appeared all were Hispanics as were the other customers who were all speaking their language.
Okay, that is the back story, we ended up leaving being very disappointed in the service we received and felt we were both "Profiled" due to our age, sex or ethnicity. We have been Macy shoppers for our entire life (now early 60's). As a result of the unacceptable treatment we received we went home and ordered the same sunglasses directly from Ray Ban at full price ($433.50). We also plan on closing any accounts we may have and will instruct our children and friends of the treatment we received today if there is no response to this correspondence. I hope that someone from your organization will address this ASAP. Thank you and have a good day. - Charles
