Scott sent a message to Marvin R. Ellison – President of J. C. Penney Company Inc.- email address that said:
Hello Mr Ellison
I am sorry to share a horrible experience in your Stockton, California store this past Saturday night.
After trying on clothing for over an hour we took our selections up to the check out counter. I had noticed that they store was in disarray with unfolded clothing piled up on the tables as if you were having a 3 for 1 sale. i also noticed that there was a line at the checkout counter. While en route I asked an associate if the clerks at the jewelry counter could ring us up. The associate said she didn't think so.
As we got up to the checkout line, I noticed the sign over head said "Customer Service". At the same time one of the two female associates walked away from the island and said, she will help you referring to the other associate.
Our patient wait to give you our money for our purchases started to grow thin. Comments were being made with the other customers waiting in line about only having one clerk to cash us out.
When the wait became unreasonable as the clerk was having an issue with the customers credit card, i got on the phone and called the store to receive a message that the store was closed. I thought this was odd as an overhead message had just broadcast that the store was closing in 30 minutes.
I asked the clerk if she could ask for some help. She replied she had but no one came.
I asked to see the manager. The clerk got on her two way radio and asked for someone. I heard a male voice on the other end say she was helping so and so close something out.
An employee came up, but said she couldnt help her because she was securing the roll up door.
By this time comments are being made by the other people in line behind me.
After continuing to wait with no care for customer service, we placed our items on the counter next to the clerk, left your store and purchased our item at one of the other stores in the mall.
No apology from the clerk as she watched us with an I dont care expression on her face.
I have never been treated like this before in a retail store for clothing.
By the look of the store, the way the merchandise was a disaster on the display tables, the lack of customer service or even a hint of friendliness while waiting, and the more interested in shutting the doors than taking care of its customers, I think you have a serious management issue at this store.
Again, I have never been treated with this type of I dont care if you spend your money here attitude.
Your company failed us.
Scott
