Michael sent a message to Jeffrey R. Immelt Chairman and CEO, General Electric – email address that said:
Dear Mr. Immelt,
This concerns: GE Consumer Relations
I know you are a very busy man and this customer service issue is far beneath you, but I am appealing to you, the President of GE for assistance. My communications with GE are detailed below, but in brief:
My family bought a brand new refrigerator from GE (GFE24JSKSS) back on 8/11/12. Only 3+ years later, the refrigerator's sealant/coolant failed and the repairman advised that the cost to repair the fridge will not be cost effective and it should be replaced.
We specifically chose GE because of its good name, but this particular fridge died only 3 years into its life which I'm told is typically 9 to 15 years.
Tiffany has been polite and professional in all her dealings with me but the offer she's making for a new fridge is $1257.50. Its for a lesser model than the one I bought.
I have asked her to drop to $975 for the fridge (delivered, installed, old fridge removal - included). We seem to have reached an impasse and I'm making one last appeal to GE's top authority.
While the difference of $282.50 may seem laughably minute to you and GE -- to me its significant. That's a week's worth of groceries for me and my family.
I would respectfully suggest the $282.50 is a small price to pay for GE to 'write off' in the interest of goodwill, customer service and fairness. The fridge was still new but failed through no fault of mine. I hope you would agree that a consumer should expect his GE product to last more than 3 years. My family bought GE dishwasher and range, too, which shows that we put a lot of faith in your company's reputation. We're good customers and just wanted to be treated fairly.
Please make this small concession for us.
Sincerely,
Michael
