Barry sent a message to Joseph H. Boardman – CEO, Amtrak – Email Address that said:
Mr Boardman,
It's truly false advertising to say you offer wifi on your trains. We booked 4 trains, two sleepers, a business class Oakland-LA and a coach ticket and the wifi almost NEVER worked, in cities, suburbs, it wasn't just remote mountain ranges where it failed.
You charge thousands and offer wifi but that's untrue. It's truly the worst wifi I've ever come across. This is 2016. We can fly to Timbuktu and stream movies (literally) but we can't get a wifi signal on a train.
This seems to me the problem with monopolies such as Amtrak. The desire to provide good service, in fact to care, becomes purely voluntary. There's no competition forcing you to be true to your word. I'd read how horrible the wifi was before booking but dated not believe this was still the case here in 2016. I definitely won't be taking any more long trips until I've read that this false advertising Clain has been resoundingly remedied. I just thought you should know what most of us in the parlour car were talking about throughout the trip.
All best,
Barry
