Ashanti sent a message to Ronald D. Boire – Chief Executive Officer of Barnes Noble, Inc. – Email Address that said:
Dear Barnes and Noble,
My name is Ashanti. I am 14 years old. You may or may not have gotten my other emails, but this will be my last. On Monday August 3 2016 I went to your store, Barnes Noble Booksellers. I went to the store to purchase Confessions: The Paris Mysteries, The Crown( The Selection Series Book 5), and the Hamilton Soundtrack. I was unable to find Confessions: The Paris Mysteries so I figured I would order it online. I had the other two items and went up to pay. On my receipt it says I had cashier Steve L. So Steve asked me if I had a membership. I said no because I didn't have one. He then preceded to tell me that if I were to sign up for the membership I could save money right away, I would have free express shipping, and that they gave me a gift of $50 for it. I figured with all of this I could save money now and order the other book online. So I filled out the paper and signed it. I then watched as my total went from around $47 to about $67. When I went to my mother I asked her to look at the receipt where she told me that the membership I signed up for was $25. Your cashier never informed me that. He let me sign that paper and pay for it without and adult there to explain to me and he didn't tell me it cost money. So I started to email Barnes and Noble to tell them about my bad experience and got no reply. I tried to learn more about the membership I accidently bought and link it to my account where I was informed by someone that it would be another 2 days before I could use it. This is more information your cashier so conveniently left out. This is my 4th email to you. I went on two live chats and it was today I learned that my only option was to take it back to the store. NONE of my emails got replies. So to make matters so much worst you have terrible costumer service. I love books and I love reading. Im going into to high school in September and there will be no more book fairs so I thought I would be coming to Barnes and Noble a lot more but this whole ordeal has made me never want to shop there again. So tell me Barnes and Noble is this the experience you want me to remember you for is these the actions you stand by?
Sincerely,
Ashanti.
