Robert sent a message to Edward C. Johnson, III – Chairman and CEO, Fidelity Investments – Email Address that said:
Dear Sir,
I have a rather unique problem which I need help with.
About a month ago my wife was in Florida caring for her terminally ill sister. She had no computer or account access and directed me to trade funds to obtain cash out of her Fidelity mutual fund account. When I did so I entered the wrong security question and the account was locked. She called fidelity to re open the account and was told we would have to be together with a computer to get into her funds. Four weeks later when she returned she was told by an agent that Fidelity Risk Management said she could not enter the account unless she sent a signature guaranteed letter stating "we would never access each others accounts again" I suppose as some type of punishment for my transgression. I was also told that no one could reverse their decision and there was no supervisor.
We are in a rather unusual situation since the closest investment center is over 100 miles one way and she has now been unable to access her funds for over 5 weeks. I am concerned even after they get the letter they will want something else. I believe they are being arbitrary and punitive and I would like to know if they have the right to play games like this and what you can do to help.
My wife's name is Patricia
Lastly, I would like to tell you that I have been with your company for at least 40 years and am shocked how we are being treated by Risk Management.
Tomorrow we make our 200 mile drive to Madison
Wisconsin unless you can intercede.
Thank you for your response,
Robert
