Heather sent a message to Marvin R. Ellison – President of J. C. Penney Company Inc.- email address that said:
Dear Mr. Ellison,
I am a third grade teacher at Blackham School in Bridgeport, CT. I teach in a low-income district where all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. When I excitedly walked into my classroom this summer to prepare it for the upcoming school year, I was floored to see not a single computer inside. I was told that the computers were taken out of the school because they were old. Yes, it took 20 minutes for them to turn on. Yes, it took another 15 minutes to load a program. Lets be honest, old is better than nothing. I thought it was bad last year when my 29 students were forced to use 2 "old computers". But now we have none and are stuck waiting for what "may or may not come". I'm not the type of person to let a childs education hang on maybe. That's why I am asking for your help! I have twenty-nine students in my classroom this year. Four of my students are Special Education students and five of my students are English Language Learners. With such a diverse group of learners, I have a lot of academic needs in my classroom and not a single computer. I recently submitted a project to www.donorschoose.org. Any donation will help me get one step closer towards my goal. I am truly sick and tired of others putting down our teachers and students for our low test scores whether verbally or in the press. My students deserve the chance to prove that they too can thrive like the children in suburban schools when given the right tools. If we are provided with equal resources, I firmly believe we will succeed! Please follow the link to make a donation. I truly appreciate you taking your time to read this, and again, any donations help!
Thank You,
Heather
