Sethia sent a message to Eric J. Foss – Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aramark – Email Address that said:
Dear Mr. Foss,
I recently learned that birds raised on factory farms for Aramark’s chicken supply chain live a life of constant misery. Despite the major shift in consumer preference towards better conditions for animals, Aramark has yet to enact any meaningful policy to protect the millions of chickens destined to be used in Aramark’s supply chain. Currently, chickens farmed for Aramark are crammed by the thousands in filthy, windowless sheds, are selectively bred to grow unnaturally large, and are violently slaughtered.
It is time for Aramark to release an animal welfare policy that addresses the egregious abuse in its chicken supply chain! Until then, I will be encouraging the universities and other Aramark-operated dining facilities to work with foodservice providers that take animal welfare more seriously.
