Jennifer Langford sent a message to William H. Rogers, Jr. - Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust Banks - Email Address that said:
Dear Mr. Rogers,
My husband and I have been clients of SunTrust for the last 20 years (3 homes we had built). We have been owners of 7 franchise restaurants for about 18 years and decided to buy into another franchise a little over 3 years ago. The new restaurant has been a struggle to get going and we had numerous hurdles early on with a local bank during construction. The VP of lending was actually fired because of the way he handled our SBA loan. We had to tap into our reserves because of the neglect this VP/bank showed us. We are now with a new bank and they are being very supportive of our restaurant and actually want us to succeed. Our restaurant is really turning a corner and we are very optimistic about our future. Now, our urgent hurdle is our mortgage. We built this home 10 years ago, it is our dream home. It is where we plan to retire. To be proactive we reached out to your company about 4 years ago (Fall 2013) to see if we could do a loan modification. We saw the probability of getting behind and we wanted to see if there was a way we could stay ahead of it. They (your bank) told my husband there was nothing they could do for us until we missed a couple payments. A year later, based on SunTrust recommendation we missed/made late a few payments in the Fall 2014, we then made our loan current like we were informed to do. Still there is was nothing your bank would do. It finally came to a point 2 years ago (Spring 2015), where we actually couldnt make the payments, thus we stopped. Based on previous conversations we were hopeful that SunTrust would now offer some type of loan modification. After 2 years of jumping through hoops and getting further and further behind, the loan department finally said there is absolutely nothing they could do. It was like... Here, take this Short Sale offer or walk away from the house. If SunTrust wouldve been more receptive and proactive like we were, we wouldve made it through these lean years. Now we are losing our house. It makes no sense at all, when you have an homeowner who is willing to work something out short term to be able to keep the home long term, and SunTrust is just not interested. Now, it has now come to a cross road. We are passionate about sharing our story to as many people as possible, but in reality, we just want to work with the bank to save our home. I wanted to reach out to you since everybody my husband has talked to could care less about our situation and I was hoping against all hope that maybe you do? Most everyone my husband has dealt with has gone above and beyond to treat him like garbage. We dont want anything for free but we just desperately need a chance to keep our home. We have a 17 year old daughter who is college bound and another 8 year old daughter. Please dont force us to uproot our family! This country is at the breaking point with its hate for CEOs/big $ corporations. Please show so many others that you arent one of those types of banks. I see you support Habitat for Humanity, which we think is a great organization and have supported in the past with our previous business. On one side, its so ridiculous to support a group that houses the less fortunate and then on the other side, would rather remove a 20 year customer from their beautiful home. A family that just wants to modify their loan so they can stay in their home and not be forced to uproot their girls from the only home theyve really only known. Like I said earlier, we dont want a handout, just a chance to get back on track with paying our mortgage. I hope to hear back from you shortly with an open mind on how we can move forward together.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Langford
