Antonella D Lee sent a message to Dan Schulman - President and CEO of PayPal - Email Address that said:
Dear Mr. Schulman,
I have been a member of PayPal since 2000. Ive used it faithfully to purchase and sell items on ebay, and also use it when its available as an option on other websites. Ive also referred many , many people, that now use PayPal because of me.
Now I am dismayed, upset, frustrated and disappointed with what has been happening to me these past two weeks. For as long as Ive been using PayPal, if I have money in my Paypal account, any purchases I made came from it. In this incident, I purchased something for around $6.00, and the charge was sent to my bank, in which I had no money, instead of from my paypal account, which had money in it. I was not aware of this, until I checked my bank account on Sunday, June 3rd, and discovered I had over $200.00 in non-sufficient fund fees! I called and spoke to 3 different representatives asking why they would keep sending charges to my bank when I had at least $300.00 in my actual PayPal account. I also explained how this would almost wipe out my paycheck that was due to be deposited in account on Monday, June 5th. Being the first of the month, all of my paycheck was earmarked for my household bills. I was told that since the first charge was sent to my bank, the charges had to keep being sent to my bank until the fees were collected. Again, I had over $300.00 in my Paypal account for any charges to be taken from.
After over an hour of hearing the policy repeated over and over to me like a broken record, I was in tears, frustrated, and very angry. I asked for the charges to stop being sent to my bank, yet I got hit with three more fees today. I have never experienced this in all my years of using PayPal, and if that is the policy it is really bad.
I asked for letters so I could send to my bank to try and recoup some of my money back, and the emails I was sent are basically still saying that I selected my bank as preferred payment and its my fault. Why would the charge still keep being sent to my bank, where it was truly clear there was no money there, and not taken from my PayPal account where there IS money.
Now I feel I can no longer purchase from ebay or anywhere else because the only way I can stop these charges is to remove my bank account , which was supposed to be a back up source if money was not in my paypal account. I have also been a customer of ebay since for around the same number of years, as well as a seller.
Im really hoping you can help me on this matter. This has put me in a real bind because I cannot pay my household bills after this has happened.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Antonella D. Lee
