Catherine R Turner sent a message to W. Craig Jelinek - President and Chief Executive Officer of Costco Wholesale Corporation email address that said:
Dear Mr. Jelinek:
I want to commend to you your employee, Carlos, at the Beltsville, MD Costco gas station (Costco Wholesale, 10925 Baltimore Ave, Beltsville, MD 20705 Phone:(301) 902-2640
Today, 7/15/2017 at just before 4:00, when it seemed half the population of D.C. was in line for gas, I filled my tank and reached for the door of my 2005 Prius, and it was locked with my keys, wallet, and phone inside. It is supposed to be impossible to lock this car with the keys inside (I have demonstrated this many times.)
The filling station cashier, Carlos, after his best efforts to open the doors failed, let me use the phone at his station to call GEICO road service. He then approached a man in line whose car advertised road service, and had him talk to the GEICO representative, who authorized this person to administer road service on the spot, saving at least an hours wait at a pump not available to the next customer until my car was out of the way.
All this time, while thinking on his feet, Carlos was at the same time de-escalating my near-hysteria, not an assignment in his job description, Im sure.
Such kindness and gentlemanliness under stress should be recognized and acknowledged in some way. I would like to hear from you that this has been accorded Mr. Carlos.
Thank you for your attention,
Catherine Turner
