Brendan Walsh sent a message to Michael J. Jackson - Chief Executive Officer of AutoNation Inc. - Email Address that said:
Mr. Jackson,
I live in Colorado and Ive recently seen commercials for your company in which you provide pink license plates to Car purchases as well as vehicles serviced in support of Breast Cancer. While I think thats great and I respect that as a company youre willing to support the research of a disease which takes the lives of people around the world, I am curious if you know of the epidemic of childhood cancer plaguing this country?
My now 10 year-old little sister has been battling Brain Cancer for almost 60% of her life. Until she got sick, I was not aware of the outrageous number of children currently dying from some form of cancer in this country. Furthermore, while I respect and feel for those fighting Breast Cancer...there has been a number of cures found and the current survival rate for people diagnosed with Breast Cancer is over 90%. There are many children (my sister is one of them) that are told their time is limited as there is nothing that can be done on a daily basis. This is a tragedy that needs more acknowledgment. Currently, only 3.8 Cents out of every dollar donated to cancer research finds its way to support childhood cancers, this should enrage you as it is the children of this world that are our future.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the color for Childhood Cancer is gold. All I wish to ask of you is that Autonation consider supporting the children around the world who are afflicted with cancer and who live tragically short lives because society doesnt wish to acknowledge the reality that children are diagnosed with life-threatening cancers every day and their families are left with the loss of a child and daily try to put back the pieces together after that loss. It would be incredibly meaningful if Autonation would consider giving the same support they show towards Breast Cancer to Childhood Cancer and provide gold license plates to Vehicles purchased and sold in support of these children.
Thank you, Sir, for your time reading this message and I hope you may take this message to heart.
Humbly,
Brendan Walsh
