@robertiger – Robert Iger – Mr Iger, I have been a Star Wars fan since I first saw A New

Matt Pearson sent a message to Robert Iger that said:

Mr Iger,
I have been a Star Wars fan since I first saw A New Hope. It was 1982 and I was four years old. Star Wars shaped my life in ways I couldn’t even image until I was much older. I credit Star Wars for inspiring my imagination and my love of astronomy, my passion for these stories will never die. I love the fact we are getting new movies and new television shows on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service, which I hope will be available in Australia. However, I have some concerns.

I read that there will be a new series set as a prequel to Rogue One with Cassian Andor as the main character. Rogue One was awesome and Diego Luna played his part to perfection but I am not sure that he is a strong enough character to hold a series on his own, especially since we already know when, where and how he dies. That potentially makes his character harder to connect with because we know whatever situation he finds himself in he will survive. He is no longer vulnerable.

I am excited about Rian Johnson’s new trilogy and the new trilogy from the guys behind Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian and of course Episode 9. I am worried that the market will become saturated with Star Wars content while LucasFilm and Disney don’t tell the stories that the fans want. I don’t know if you read the online comments which are largely horrible so don’t start but in among the garbage are a few nuggets of truth.

Solo was excellent but suffered at the box office for several reasons
1- Fan backlash over the perceived faults of The Last Jedi 2- It was released to soon after The Last Jedi 3- Han being played by someone other than Harrison Ford, personally I thought that Alden did a great job but I don’t want the new stuff to suffer the same fate. I love Star Wars and want to watch it well into the future but if you don’t get the bulk of the fan base back on board quickly what you produce will be as well received as Solo and The Last Jedi and that would be a travesty.

To tell the stories that the fans want you need to focus on what made the original trilogy so awesome, make a grand epic story with new characters while still featuring the badass lightsabre duels between the Jedi and the Sith that we all love and were featured so brilliantly in the prequel trilogy. Tell stories from the Old Republic era or go far into the future past episode nine. Mr Lucas created an amazing galaxy of epic and unending possibilities, brand new and original stories would be well received, I feel very confident that I can guarantee that.

Personally, I would love to see more of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Benedict Cumberbatch would be fantastic in the role), Darth Revan, Darth Bane and Maz Kanata just to name a few. I know these characters have already been created but their stories can be expanded and bought back into the official canon and Thrawn into a live action movie. Also, I really want to know how did Maz obtained Luke’s lightsabre as one potential story line. I read that the Boba Fett movie was cancelled but that could have been amazing if done correctly and branched out not just to encompass Fett but all of the bounty hunters that we know and love from The Empire Strikes Back, as I said story is key and a badass original tale would be wonderful.

I know that this is a long shot but I would be happy to join the Disney Star Wars team as a creative consultant of sorts where I could liaise between the company and the fan base and help guide the franchise into the future. It would be a dream job. I only have the best interests of Star Wars, Disney and Lucasfilm at heart. I know that you do to but I feel I could provide a different perspective as a lifelong fan that could be valuable to you.

I would be willing to move my family to America or work via Skype from my home in Adelaide. If you’re willing, I would be happy to talk to you at any time, my email address is below. I’m sure you get letters from other nerds all the time with the same offer but take a chance on me and you won’t be disappointed. I am hoping that you see something different in me, something that sparks your curiosity and makes you want to contact me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.

Regards
