am a 59 year old homeless vet who lives in the car with my dog – Brian C Cornell email address

Roger sent a message to Brian C. Cornell Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Target Corporation that said:

am a 59 year old homeless vet who lives in the car with my dog. I have ran into some tough times but that’s life sometimes. I sit in back of the Lake Mary Target store out of the way where no cars are ever parked and very little traffic ever comes through. I sit in a well lighted area and use the cities hot spot wifi. I don’t throw any garbage out or make any kind of mess in the area. I don’t beg for money or even approach anyone. I usually am there 2 or 3 hours during the evening. New year’s eve a manager, I assume, drove up to my car and said, “what are you doing here?” I said,” what,” cause my dog barked in my ear making it hard to hear. He then he said,”are you using the stores wifi? Yes im just using the wifi.” He then said, “I guess I’ll just call the police,” and sped away. I didn’t even know who he was and he really didn’t give me any time to say anything. A sheriff arrived in a few minutes and said that they got a call and Target does not want me here anymore. They said that Target wanted to trespass me but the sheriff told me just to leave and find somewhere else to park. This had happened a few weeks earlier and I even think it was the same sheriff. I told her then, me and my dog live in the car, I was actually from the area and we just use the wifi in the hot spot. We don’t sleep in the lot. She then said I will tell them you are not here to cause any trouble and I said I’ll move on. I don’t spend every day there but I am there 4 or 5 times a week. It is a nice quiet out of the way area where me and the dog can relax and also the wifi hotspot is nice. Had the manager talked to me I would have told him that and if he said move on I would move on. I don’t want to cause trouble.
The manager, and again I assume it was the manager, was rude and I would think during the holidays he could have had a little more compassion. I hope this never happens to him or to anyone. It’s a tough time of the year to be homeless. When you are out there and homeless you see a lot more than other people do. It is a larger problem than you would think. I still purchase items from your store in fact I was eating a bag of candy I had purchased earlier. I also was wearing a shirt, pair of shorts and gym shoes that I bought from Target. Over the years back when I was a person I purchased a lot of items from your store. It’s just upsetting that I was causing no trouble, making no mess and bothering no one in an area that basically had no traffic, just trying to sit somewhere in peace with my only friend now my dog and this happened. In fact one day a older woman was trying to push here disabled grandson over the grass to get to your store and I got out and helped her. That is the kind thing to do. I don’t expect you to do anything. Like I said it is just upsetting and at this time of year if you are homeless you get upset a lot. I think that mangers people relations could have been better.
