Here is the timeline which explains why I owe Direct TV and you – zero. Dates are approximate but can be tied to DIRECTV’s system (of calls) and to my account file on which they left many notes.

In April – our family decided to relocate (job related) in North Carolina. We sold our house in New York and purchased a home in Clemmons NC.
Old address (with DTV) – 603 Lybolt Rd, Middletown NY 10941
New Address (no DTV – have ATT UVerse) – 1014 Keswick Pl, Clemmons NC, 27012

In May 2019 – I called Direct TV – to cancel service as of July 1st, 2019 (moving date). I received an address to return equipment, but they asked that I put account on hold until I decided what service I would use in North Carolina. They requested that I hold equipment (receivers/remotes) until I decided on account status.

We moved on July 1st 2019 – received bill from direct tv which reflected suspended service as of 7/1/19.

In our new home – we chose ATT Uverse (account is active and current) – due to fiber internet option. We like the service.

In Mid-July – I called DTV to cancel – they said account would be cancelled once equipment is returned – they noted this in account and provided address to UPS store to return. I returned equipment that day to UPS – they shipped it back.

Called the next week – they verified receipt of equipment & that account was now cancelled. I believe this is where Direct TV did not cancel – but by mistake (or on purpose) reactivated the service at our old address.

Then 2 months later – Direct TV started to send bills to my new address for service (at a house that I do not live at or own).

I called over 10 times to try to fix this – every time ended with a rep. in a call center in India transferring me to a department that does not exist. They would document this – several times they said it was fixed. Yet the bills keep coming.

I did not live at 603 lybolt where service was restored to (duh!) and do not have a dish at my current address.

I have spoken with an attorney on this – this documentation will be provided to him.

Per his advice – this letter should suffice for you to close out this file and have Direct TV do the same. Next communications will be with him. Based on above timeline and errors on DTV – it will be an easy win.
