Dear Mr. Stack:
I have been an employee at Store 628 (Yonkers NY) since its inception in 2011. After 5 years of service I was recently terminated because of a time and attendance issue. I would like this decision Policy to be re-considered due to my home and family circumstances longevity at Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc.
On November 13th of 2015 me, my wife and our 2 children were evicted from our Rental home. The Landlord gave us an opportunity to clear the arrears and re-occupy but the ability to make the money to pay the arrears only became available in the last 2 months with my wife’s new raise. I confided with HR of my dilemma but they simply told me that there was nothing they could do to help me because I was not Full-time. Therefore, I have been coming to work as a homeless employee for 8 months now. At times it has been trying because my wife has stayed in Queens, NY during this ordeal and my two children and I have resided on my mother’s living room couch and reclining chair.
I have a mind to work and give 100% to every customer, Manager and co-worker regardless of what is going on in my personal life. Furthermore, I was selected by Store Management some months back to be the “Point Guard” in a trial Strategy introduced by the District Manager. My Scorecard percentage averages 90 and above every month and I was selected to accompany the Store Manager to a No Sweat Protection Plan workshop in CT 2 months ago. I am a good, faithful, loyal employee that looks out for the store and the Team.
For 4 ½ years I always stayed under the wire with Time Attendance. The change of the Time and Attendance policy exaggerated my less than 15 minute lateness and quickly exhausted the maximum amount of violations. I am not completely innocent here however, on this last event my children’s Dog died. We were in PA (King of Prussia) at a Church Conference on the day I was due in to work. My mother called me sobbing and barely audible on our return back to NY alerting us of the horrible news. Upon return I could have either left everyone with the dog in the house or help bring some closure by accompanying the family to the Pet Cemetery to make arrangements. This was my daughters’ first dog and I chose to go through the grieving process with them. When I was released today, I was told there is nothing in the Manual that addresses loss of a Pet and therefore I have exhausted my Time and Attendance and am being let go.
Please Mr. Stack, if you saw my face you would remember me from your Ridge Hill (Yonkers) visits. I am a good man, a good father and a faithful husband of 20 years. I cannot afford to lose my job right now being so close to re-entering our residence again. Please find a way to help me return to work.
Sincerely,
Charles
