Shane sent a message to William H. Rogers, Jr. CEO, SunTrust Banks, Inc. – email address that said:
Bill,
I was hoping to be able to use SunTrust for a Super PAC I just setup but your staff is very slow to respond and take care of what I see as simple services such as wiring capabilities. In my other companies that process millions each year, wiring setup was pretty simple and was turned on and ready to go with the account.
On top of the delay by Sun Trust staff, in order to access this feature, I’m required to download Trusteer Rapport — an IBM product that many consider to be spyware. If you take a look of paragraph 2 of the end user agreement, you’ll see that IBM requires users allow IBM access to their files that they can take at any time. Basically, Sun Trust is allowing a third party to spy on their own customers.
Given the many security issues the banking industry faces at the moment, it’s fairly absurd that a large bank such as SunTrust would want to do this to its business banking clients.
Note that with BBT, I was given a key fob with a code that changes every few seconds that serves as an add on to my password. I can use it anywhere and I don’t have to compromise my privacy to use it. So after two weeks of trying to simply get access to wiring and use this account, I’ll be going back to BBT — a shame as a SunTrust branch is convenient and your staff their is fantastic.
I’d recommend you ditch IBM’s Trusteer Rapport out of concern for the privacy of your clients.
Sincerely,
Shane
