Hi Bill Gates, I am a Gates Millennium Scholar, and was would appreciate it if you would advance the following projects of interest. Given the recent controversy over 3D printed plastic guns, I was wondering whether it is possible to meet the concerns of self-defense while keeping society safe by announcing the following prizes. The first prize would award money to the team that builds a self-defense tool that is as effective as a gun without causing injury or death. The second prize would award money to the team that builds a device that can detect whether a person walking down the street is carrying a gun from a long distance, perhaps based on radar or millimeter wave scanners combined with AI (facial recognition). The first project would democratize personal self-defense in every country. The second project would prevent prohibited persons from carrying dangerous weapons on the streets.
