Hi Mdm Chua,
I\'m writing to you directly only because I\'ve exhausted all means through your help desk to find a reasonable outcome to my dad\'s recent subscription to Singtel 500 mps home wifi plan.
Im writing on his behalf because he is aged (80 Yrs old) and speak little English.
Here\'s a brief background to the case. A few months ago, I helped him to upgrade to the his current 500 mps plan. Two weeks ago, I logged into his home wifi account for the first time to test out his wifi strength, only to find that it was registering a miserable 2 MPS even when the device was centimeters away. Upon questioning him, I found out that it had been this level of signal strength for a few months, and he thought it was supposed to be like that. In fact, to circumvent the problem, my parents have resorted to using their phone dataplan just to surf. I immediately contacted help desk and a technician came last week. It was ascertained that the fault was due to faulty hardware from Singtel, and the modem was replaced.
I requested the help desk to give my dad justice as he had paid for a level of service (500 mps) but got only a dismal fraction of the signal strength. I felt he should be compensated for the loss of use of the plan he subscribed to as it was a hardware problem. The help desk bounced this matter a few days and got back to me saying that because the issue happened during the free period (first few months of plan), they could do nothing about compensation. I told them that I wasn\'t after any money. All I was asking for after their reply was to extend the free months further forward to cover my dad\'s loss of use of the plan he subscribed to. Again, this took a few days. Yesterday, they contacted me and gave me the same reply.
I hope you can understand how frustrating this whole episode has been for us. I\'m taking the trouble only because it is the right thing to do. We can afford the subscription but this is not fair at all. My dad did not get what he subscribed to and the free months we feel are just marketing gimmicks because the entire cost of the contract had factored in those "free months".
I can be contacted at 96564831. My dad is Chua Chin Kwee and nric is S0088316F, a proud pioneer generation Singaporean.
