@costco – Craig Jelinek – Dear Craig Jelinek, My wife and I are members of the Costco in Brookfield, CT

Glenn Holmes sent a message to Craig Jelinek that said:

Dear Craig Jelinek,
My wife and I are members of the Costco in Brookfield, CT. Our parents before us were also loyal customers. The people at Costco have always been reasonable, so I was very surprised to hear my wife describe one of your policies that is in sharp contrast with another. She was asked to visit Costco to place an order for contact lenses and then to visit again to pick them up a week later. This initial visit to order the lenses was simply to provide information that could easily be provided over the phone. When she asked if she could simply order over the phone, the response was that see needed to visit due to a Costco policy requiring a visit for orders using insurance. So, in this time of COVID19, she is asked to put on a mask, risk her health and potentially her life, and the health/life of others, to provide information to a Costco employee that could easily be provided over the phone!

I find this in stark contrast to your Coronavirus message where you speak of face mask use and state “… This is not simply a matter of personal choice; a face covering protects not just the wearer, but others too…. we’re choosing to err on the side of safety in our shopping environments... As part of a community, we believe this simple act of safety and courtesy is one that Costco members and employees can undertake together.” I hope it’s obvious, but I’ll make the observation that allowing a phone order is more convenient and infinitely safer than use of a face mask. I was surprised to hear that Costco had such an unreasonable and inconsiderate policy, especially during this very difficult time.
