Barbara sent a message to Abigail Johnson – President and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Investments and Chairman of Fidelity Worldwide Investment email address that said:
Dear Abigail Johnson,
I am sending this to you because I am having problems obtaining my pension from ATT which is managed by Fidelity Investments. I will turn 65 in December and have been in contact with Fidelity since April to make sure my pension from ATT will be available to me in December. I know this is way beneath your job, but this is very important to me. Fidelity can find no record of my employment with ATT. I worked there from 1973 until I left after a maternity leave in 1985. My understanding is that because my employment is beyond seven years in the past, my records need to be accessed through ATT archives. I guess this is almost next to impossible to accomplish therefore, I will have to wait until some indefinite period of time for my pension to be verified. Once it has been, it will take 8 to 10 weeks before I start receiving any money. This is a small pension for most people, but I earned it and have planned to live on it. I am told that the procedure is difficult and I should be patient. Would you be patient if you were told that you would not get paid until sometime in the future, maybe? I know that I am not alone in this situation. There are many other former employees of ATT who will be retiring. The procedure is not working. I am asking that my case be expedited since I have already spent seven months working with Fidelity. I have done what was asked of me, including having Social Security records sent to Fidelity. I have sent Fidelity the document from ATT which has the calculations of my pension. I ask only that I may receive what I earned in a timely manner and that this procedure be reviewed so that future retirees do not have to go through the same ordeal. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Barbara
