Dear Jeff Dailey:
I am contacting you because I would love to have some feedback from someone of higher regard! I am CarLotta Mitchell and I live in Cary, NC. I have played sports all of my life and the end result of my sports have led to a disability in my life. The physical disability that I face now is not one that a surgery can fix or a few physical therapy appointments. I am irreversible with my condition. Every year I have to make some type of different adjustment in my life. I have a very limited range of motion when it comes to bending due to several knee injuries and surgeries from mainly playing basketball. I love the sport and I do miss it but I am not happy with what it has done to my restricted life. I lose a significant amount of range of motion yearly. At the rate I am going – and if technology does not come up with an answer, my mobility will become very short lived. I would like to enjoy what I have at the moment.
I decided to share my story with you because I am in the middle of the assistance line when it comes to getting the help needed. I do not use a wheelchair or anything of that nature. When I am walking down a flat surface I am no different than anyone else. However I am limited to going up and down steps or bending to do anything that normal people do daily such as tying their shoes or picking up something off the floor. I can no longer sit Indian style or see the bottom of my own foot without a mirror. I am limited to what type of vehicle I drive. Many years ago I purchased a Toyota Sequoia because I owned a service dog who was also my best friend. Well he recently passed and I believe I will be ok without another service dog at this point in my life. He was in my life for 15 years. And now having one of the largest SUVS on the road that is also 15 years old, well it has done its justice as well. I have over 316,000 miles on this vehicle. It has been really great to me and for me, however, I am afraid to get in it daily now while hoping and praying it makes it to work, to the grocery store, etc. Because of my physical limitations I can only get in/out of an SUV on a daily basis. This 15 year old vehicle is now costing me a lot to keep it on the road. Unfortunately I am not in a financial situation to afford to buy anything else.
My reason for reaching out to your company directly because I have watched this online vehicle auction company for several months now called Copart. I have watched bids for many types of SUVS some go for really cheap while others may end high enough, some should just go buy a new car. I joined this actuation with the potential of getting a newer model vehicle from them at some point when and if I ever had the finances to do so. I have taken notice that many cars come from insurance companies such as your company for Copart to sale through their online car auctions. I wanted to reach out to you directly to inquire about specific vehicles before you were to send them to Copart. I would like to ask if there is any way possible you would donate a car to me instead of selling it to Copart. The main vehicles I watch for are small and economical SUVS that are within a few years old. I have never had a new vehicle and by the looks of things it’s not something that will happen any time soon. So this would be my only option to get a vehicle that is a higher model and would get better gas mileage. The main vehicles I watch are the ones that do not have any bodily damage and runs and drives. They have them divided into sub groups and I only look at cars with Hail damage, vandalism, minor scratches, water/flood, and normal wear tear. I’ve been out to their local yard to view a few vehicles just to get an idea and see if they run. So far I have been lucky that those vehicles do run and start, however – when watching their bids the cars have gone for 6k-9k, I don’t have this kind of money sitting around. The main SUV’s I have taken an interest in are higher models like 2014 and up. I have seen them go for really cheap! My dream car is a Honda HRV, following that would be the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4 and then Acura MDX. I have seen these cars fully loaded go for under 10k. I have just been praying something will change for me before my SUV gives up on me. I would be so happy to have a newer SUV with all the bells and whistles, and it would be new to me for sure! So this is my reasoning for reaching out to you to see if you would ever consider intercepting one of your SUV’s for someone like me before sending it out to these larger companies like Copart to be sold?
I would be glad to have a conversation on the phone with you as well or even if ever possible to meet in person! I am not looking for a hand out, more so a hand up into this world. I am putting myself through school and I work full time at North Carolina State University. I have plans and goals for my future and I hope having something with more reliable transportation will help get me there. I really and truly hope my letter reaches you and that I will hear from you and your team soon!
Thank you soo much for your time,
Carlotta
