Darren sent a message to Michael O’Leary – CEO, Ryanair – Email Address that said:
Dear Michael,
I am contacting you on behalf of the Pitch Putt Union of Ireland. As part of our duties, we are responsible for the organisation and running of all Provincial and National Championships and Competitions.
In 2016 we will be sending an Irish team to the World Cup which takes place in Xixerella, Andorra on the 1 – 3 July.
We would like to offer your company the opportunity to partner/sponsor a successful Irish team. We intend on travelling with Ryanair - most likely flying into Barcelona and bus transfer from there.
Ireland have a great record at the World Cup. We did not compete in the inaugural event in 2004 in Sardinia. This event was won by Catalonia and it was considered such a great achievement that the winning Catalonian team were presented to 80,000 spectators at Nou Camp in Barcelona. In 2006 Ireland finished 3rd, with Catalonia again victorious on their home soil in front of an estimated 2000 spectators.
2008 seen Ireland crowned World Champions when defeating Holland in the final on their home soil in Papendal, Arnaheim. Ireland successfully defended this title in 2012 when they overcame Austrailia in the final which took place at the Royal Meath course in Clonee, Co. Meath.
Pitch and Putt in Ireland has never been as successful as in recent times. As alluded to above we have had European and World, individual and team champions. There are not many sports in which Ireland are so competitive and possess “World Champions”.
I appreciate that this me be the wrong avenue for such a request but wanted to appeal to you personally and your love for sport.
Should you be interested in what we have to offer, we can be contacted at the e-mail address above.
Many Thanks,
Darren .
