Richard sent a message to Greg D. Carmichael Chief Executive Officer of Fifth Third Bancorp Email Address that said:
Dear Mr Carmichael:
Currently you have a branch office in Big Rapids Michigan. The history of this office is that it was once Citizens State Bank (run by my grandfather,) then it became Central Michigan Bank and Trust (run by my father). During this period my grandfather gave a coin and currency collection to the bank.
When the bank was sold to Old Kent and then Old Kent was sold to 5th 3rd Bank the collection went with it.
The collection which was once on display in the main lobby is now sitting in the vault of the Big Rapids bank collecting dust. I have been in contact with the bank and your organization is willing to have it appraised for a possible sale to me.
It seems that since your organization paid nothing for it, and hardly even recognizes its existence a good public relations move would be to return it to my family. If not, and it proves too costly for me to purchase back, it should at least be donated to a museum where it could be properly cared for and displayed.
Thank you for your consideration,
- Richard
