Greg sent a message to James M. Cracchiolo – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ameriprise Financial – Email Address that said:
Dear Mr Cracchiolo, I am a long time customer of Ameriprise. I received an interesting call on my cell phone today from your company. I was in a meeting and stepped out to take the call. It was an auto-call from Ameriprise telling me about an enhancement on the Ameriprise site. I found that very annoying and was shocked that a company as reputable as Ameriprise would send such spam phone calls to their customers. Imagine if every business you conduct business with called your cell phone to tell you about updates or other marketing enhancements. Since Ameriprise wasn't soliciting, I assume it's not against the law technically, but it certainly breaks the same principles of spam calls. I think it's unethical at the least but for sure it's disrespectful of your customer's time
It puts me in an odd position. I can't be taken off your phone lists because I'm a client. And yet I don't ever want to have a random call from your company telling me about a marketing or web site enhancement in the future. Can you please advise on this matter.
Thanks, Greg
