Buddy Wilson sent a message to Marvin R. Ellison - President of J. C. Penney Company Inc.- email address that said:
Dear Mr. Ellison,
I am writing to you for two reasons; first I hate to see a great company like JC Penny fail. Secondly I think my wife and I know the reason for your plummeting sales. Our ages are 76 73 and we have bought a good portion of our clothes from Pennys for most of our life up until about 10 years ago.
Since about that time we have gone many times to shop primarily for my wifes dresses and almost every time we leave without buying anything because there are no nice looking dresses available. Your buyers seems to have abandoned stocking nice appropriately fitting clothes for senior ladies. Most people our age are conservative and are not into this new age kind of dress. We are not alone all of our friends express the same frustration. The most overheard comment I hear when shopping with my wife at our local pennys store is; there is nothing here to buy I firmly believe if your company would hire a few middle to upper middle class senior ladies as advisers to your purchasing department and just try it in a few stores you might find a new major market. Folks our age still like to go to a store shop and try things on. We hope you will seriously consider these thoughts.
Sincerely Buddy Mary Wilson
