Annie sent a message to Mark Fields President and Chief Executive Officer of Ford Motor Company email address that said:
Dear Mr. Fields, My name is Annie and I do a lot of charitable work in the inner city of Los Angeles. This part of the city has 2 rival gangs and we do our best to support a tennis program for less fortunate kids of all ages in the area to keep them busy and out of trouble. (Pete Brown Scholarship Program-see our website). The coaches that work with the kids are paid very little and they mentor these kids much more that teach them how to swing a racket. One of our most popular coaches, David, is a retired war veteran and has been helping the kids for many many years. The kids love him, trust him and for most of our boys whos fathers have abandoned them (this is very common here) David is their go-to guy. David has been driving a beat up old car for all these years and recently it completely "died". Now David, who is elderly, is not sure he can handle the long bus rides to the park anymore as it often takes him 1hour and 45 minutes to travel one way. We need David!! These kids need David! He is the kindest coach, mentor and friends these less fortunate kids have in their lives. This gentle old guy has been not only a hero to our country but is every bit a hero to these children and to our program. Mr. Fields, I am writing to you in a bit of desperation for a car for David as I know Ford is a great American company . He is very deserving and it would mean a great deal to a man who has given so much to his country and community. I can promise he would be thrilled!. David is also suffering from a skin condition acquired in the war but I love how the kids just look right past it which is easy to do once you know him. Please, Mr. Fields, if there is a way to help David with a car we would be forever grateful as would the kids! Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to your reply.
Annie
