Dear Mr. Jelinek,
I was so disturbed and troubled to read about Costcos egg supplier Hillandale Farms and the cruel and inhumane conditions under which they raise their birds. Costco is a store we enjoy shopping at, but if the ethics behind the structure are so poor and neglectful of animal welfare, well I just think we may go elsewhere. Particularly disturbing was the fact that Costco apparently had pledged to switch to cagefree eggs in 2007 and yet had neglected to do so.
Friday, when I walked into my Costco store, armed with this article, I intended to post this article on the egg display case, however much to my surprise, a large sign inside read Cage-Free eggs! So I guess you did it, but it took an undercover investigation and public outcry to make it happen. The sad and unfortunate thing is if implemented back in 2007 you could have saved thousands of birds from suffering and dying under these circumstances. I'm disappointed and will certainly keep my eyes out for more Costco practices which jeopardize the lives of living things in order to boost profits. Laura
