Kelli sent a message to Howard R. Levine – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Family Dollar – Email Address that said:

Dear Mr.Levine,

Good Morning,
my name is Kelli , I am the President of Wildwood Elementary PTO in Middletown, Ohio . This school is challenge by some of the obstacles that it is trying to over come in these hard economic times. I have been shopping at a lot of Family Dollars getting good deals on things for a Santa Shop for our kids , I bought some journals from a lot of your stores for the holidays. I found some at 3 different stores and they rang up a 1 cent , I told the clerks that I had just bought some the day before for a $1.25. I was willing to pay a $1.25 for something that rang up on the shelf for a cent. They should have sold them to me a a penny a piece by the law. But I was told that they must be DESTROYED . Wow, trees lost their life to make those journals, and your company throws millions away I bet. Do you know how many kids go with out. I know this is small in comparison to the world problems, but they could have just donated them too. Then I have been reaching out to different companies for donations , and I received this back from your company.

Thank you for your recent request for assistance. Family Dollar is dedicated to the communities we serve, not only by offering quality merchandise at good values, but also by supporting the charities and institutions that benefit those communities.

Due to the current economic environment, however, Family Dollar has narrowed its charitable giving focus to social service organizations that are providing the needy with the basic necessities of life…specifically, food, clothing and shelter.

If your organization qualifies for a grant but did not receive one this time, please understand that, due to the volume of requests received each month, we are not able to grant all that qualify.

Though we are unable at this time to meet your needs, we wish you every success in your endeavor.

Well to say the least, I understand you cannot help everybody that ask. But maybe if your company didn't waste so much. That's all, something I must get off my chest. Thank you for you time . Kelli
