Margaret sent a message to Craig Menear – Chairman, CEO and President of The Home Depot email address that said:
Dear Mr. Menear,
This e-mail is in regard to Bathroom remodel When I sent my original e-mail my case was assigned to Miss Tammy Brogdon. Miss Brogdon was very helpful and was able to get things in motion despite Bobby Coles attempts to stop the process. The bathroom remodel is now complete and we are at the point of Home Depot compensating my family for the health and hardship we were put through. When the original remodel was done by Home Depots sub contractor Affordable Contractors, the drain and the shower mount was installed incorrectly and the tub was tilted toward the bathroom instead of the wall with the surround. Now you would think this would be very noticeable by leaks. This is not the case. Because of the age of the house and that there is no basement, under the floor was a vapor barrier, which I am told was standard practice construction practice at that time. Now to present day, 4 1/2 years later the leaking water had been trapped between the wood flooring and vapor barrier causing the moisture level in the house to be four times greater then recommended. This was verified by Service Pro when they came to dry out the house. This was not apparent to use until the wood sub floor was rotted and the tub started sinking and the floor became soft to walk on. At this point Home Depot was contacted to make right what they had done wrong. The process stalled with Bobby Cole. This is were Tammy came in and got things moving. This was a very dangerous situation for my family. There are two children in that house ages 3 and 1 who have been sick since birth with sinus infections and ear infections we are not totally sure this was caused by the high moisture level but since the flooring had to be replaced not only in the bath but down the entire hall and two closets it is a good bet. The family was removed for for testing and to let Service Pro dry out the house so work could begin. The family was out of the house for 12 days and when they returned there was a contractor working in the house for two weeks after that while they were trying to bring the children home from daycare, feeding the and trying to get then to bed at night when the construction was right out side their bedroom door. It got to the point the three year old would go tell the contractor they were going out and would see him later. Don't misunderstand, Romanoff Contractors were great to work with; however none of this should of happened. I expect Home Depot to compensate us for our pain and suffering, not to mention the doctor bills that have been piling up. I talked to Tammy and she advised me she has but a claim request through for the family twice and been turned down. I do find it kind of ironic that the man that tried to stop the complete remodel was Bobby Cole and since he was the project manager my claim for compensation is going through him also. I have nothing nice to say about Bobby Cole. Not sure if his job is to aggravate people so bad that they go away, if so he has failed or if he is suppose to make the customer happy, if so he has failed. I am not going to roll over and go away. Home Depot needs to accept what they have done to my family and compensate us for it. You may say, well we fixed the bathroom, well that is what I paid for 4 1/2 years ago and if it had been done correctly we wouldn't be here today. You as a corporation are responsible for all the work your sub contractors perform. Please don't make me show up on the 5 o'clock news with an adorable redheaded three year old outside your Marietta, Cobb County store. Regards
Miss Margaret
