Aisha sent a message to Arne M. Sorenson – President and Chief Executive Officer of Marriott International, Inc. – Email Address that said:
Dear Mr. Soenson,
My name is Dr. Aisha.
I and my family have been loyal customers to Marriot for many years and have often enjoyed the quality of your rooms and the wholesomeness of your breakfasts before I and my family set out for our days.
On August 21st-August 22nd I stayed in Coral Gables Marriot. I purchased the continental breakfast and ate between 8:30AM-8:55AM and boarded the 9AM shuttle to the Miami airport. During breakfast I ate fruit piece of fruit (cantelope or melon which tasted like ham. I then boarded my flight. By about 2:30PM local time after my flight landed I began to feel nausea and developed a fever, roughly 6 hours after the fruit I consumed that tasted like ham.
Then ensued diarrhea which entailed going to the toilet 10x or more per day. I mostly slept during my holiday due to overwhelming fatigue, dehydration and I also had a fever, muscle cramps, abdominal bloating, stomach pain and passing offensive watery stools and at some times just liquids. I ate nothing more that day due to feeling unwell. For the next 4 days I managed only sips of fluid and crackers and by day 4 I vomited everything I had eaten over the past 4 days. I knew this because I saw grapefruit pieces and bits of fruit that I ate at the continental breakfast and had not eaten before August 22nd or after August 22nd.
I filed a complaint with the hotel on Thursday, August 25th and was contacted by Sharon Mars of customer service who said:
"I am sorry your stay at Courtyard Miami Coral Gables was not the Marriott experience you deserve. "
I was then contacted by Harvy Garcia, The Assistant General Manager at the Courtyard by Marriott Miami Coral Gables who simply said that no other customers complained of the symptoms.
When asked for an explanation as to why the fruit tasted like ham he could not provide one. This conversation was not helpful in resolving the matter at hand.
Now 10 days since I initially had this I am still experiencing bloating, loose stools, abdominal cramping that wakes me out of my sleep and feel generally unwell and have a loss of appetite. The medical opinion of the physician I have been evaluated by is that I contracted an illness from the fruit I consumer at your facility based on the timeline of my experience.
As an win-win outcome I would like financial compensation for the money I have paid for my medical evaluation and pain and suffering I have experienced.
I look forward to your response and a solution.
Kind regards,
Dr. Aisha
