Meg sent a message to Edward W. Stack – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dick’s Sporting Goods – Email Address that said:
Dear Mr. Stack,
I just wanted to let you know that I am very upset with your Lombard, Illinois store. I visited your store yesterday and spent $181.86 on World Series gear. My husband purchased an additional $84.40 worth of gear, so we spent approx. $266 in your store. I had a $10 coupon for purchases over $50 (a Boy Scouts of America coupon) which the store would not honor. The clerk told me the manager had told them not to honor any coupons on world series gear. My husband was told the same thing for his purchase. There was no sign posted, nothing on the coupon, no reason not to honor the coupon other that "the manager said so". I called two other local stores-Naperville and Bloomingdale-and was told that both stores were honoring coupons as long as they had a bar code to scan (mine did).
I am disgusted at this particular store manager's decision to not honor coupons, seemingly to capitalize even further on what is already a huge windfall to DSP-the line was out the store, around the side of the building, and world series gear was flying off the shelves, even as a Fed Ex truck was arriving to deliver more. I must assume that stores are incentivized to be top selling stores, and that this manager was hoping this would put him at the top? I can only guess at that, as there does not seem to be any other reason for this one store's refusal to honor the coupon.
I am really disappointed in how this was handled. We have other options in our area, but chose to shop at Dick 's. I will definitely be rethinking that choice for future purchases.
Sincerely,
Meg
