Dear Mr. Swedish,
I must say that I am appalled at the answers I received, last year, concerning preventative surgery. I carry both BRACA genes (12) and I wanted to have a full hysterectomy and I was told that it would not be covered as preventative. I was told that it would be covered as an elective surgery.
Now, a year later I have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I hope you are all happy. So now instead of just a preventative surgery you will get to pay for surgery and treatment. I guess by doing this makes for money for your company, because it does nothing to help me!!!!!
BC/BS, if they could find a way, would be happy to use the genetic testing against me, but when it can work for me and hopefully reduce my risk, I was denied the opportunity unless I paid for it myself.
As a school employee I make $30,000 a year an can ill afford to pay deductibles, out of pocket and 20% of any surgery. I know that, in part, this is the states decision because they choose the plans and I will be writing to Governor Deal also.
I am sorry to say that I have no respect for any company that denies what is necessary to assist they consumers!!! I have had insurance for 17 years and has not cost BC/BS very much. Fortunately for me I have been healthy up to this point. Now when I need you assists I am told, Sorry, that is not covered under preventative . What nonsense is that!! I could have had this done last year and I would not have had to go through this.
Hooray for You,
Anita Strish
