Michael sent a message to Paul Allen – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Vulcan Inc. – Email Address that said:
Dear Paul. I am (originally) an environmentalist with extensive experience in protected area and wildlife management, but also with 22 years experience in the field of international development, living and working in Vietnam, Malawi, Palestine, Central Asia, Pakistan, Indonesia and Bangladesh, among others. I have led the Bangladesh country operations for Save the Children, a $50 million/ year, 1000 staff operation in health, education, livelihoods and HIV AIDS, for 4 1/2 years, and am currently acting Asia regional director, overseeing 3000 staff and a budget of $300 million/ year in 14 country programs. I would like to do something completely different, ideally at the interface between the environment and human development needs. My particular passion would be developing a mechanism which supports communities to more effectively manage natural resources in such a way that they are able to meet their development needs, whilst at the same time protecting and conserving the environment. A colleague strongly recommended Vulcan Philanthropies as an innovative, thoughtful, effective organization which is having a significant impact in a range of areas relating to human development. If you think that I have skills and experience that would be relevant to the work of Vulcan Philanthropies, I would be keen to discuss this further either with yourself, or with an appropriate staff member.
Thank you.
Kind regards
Michael
