For: Kenneth Fisher, Chairman and CEO, Fisher House. Date: November 25, 2016
Dear Mr. Fisher,
My name is John My wife Yodith and Daughter Catherine arrived at the Walter Reed Fisher House in February of 2016. My daughter has genetic issues that resulted in multiple physical disabilities including developmental delay physical deformity (scoliosis) and respiratory problems. She was an active child able to walk run and get into mischief. She had a halo placement and subsequent scoliosis repair. After the surgery she lost the use of her legs, bowel and urinary function. This past Monday she was sent to Kennedy Krieger Rehabilitation Center of Baltimore MD for spinal rehab therapy for 3-6 weeks after which they would return to Walter Reed, this is all to preface this. I was working overseas in Abu Dhabi with my other two daughters Victoria 15 and Lauren 13 they joined my wife at the end of the school year. Since their arrival at the Fisher House they have been in many instances treated uncaringly and unfairly. I recently loss my job and I’m currently out-processing. Due to the suddenness of the job loss it put our family in a serious financial state. They have been constantly threatened with eviction and even with their financial situation were told they have to pay rent. As I stated before Catherine was sent to Baltimore after the failed surgery my other two daughters even though they had adult supervision for the short time their sister was at rehab they were evicted under threat of being removed by the police and social services. With limited funds they were thrown out into the streets this morning. If this was the normal operating procedure we would not mind, but if you would investigate you will find that there is a popularity contest at the Fisher House and all are not treated the same especially by the manager Mike. I honorably served my country during more than three military conflicts and numerous humanitarian relief efforts. I even worked at Water Reed Army Hospital in DC as a Medical corpsman. I know that you are an NGO that provides wonderful services for the military and their dependents, I just wish my family had received the same treatment from you staff. You cannot imagine the emotional turmoil of having a sick child’s condition made worse and the possibility of her children becoming homeless is quite distressing to her. If you would please contact my wife, Yodith and she will account for all the details. I can be reached I thank you in advance for your consideration.
