Rodney sent a message to James J. Murren – Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International – Email Address that said:
Good afternoon Mr. Murren.
Let's chat about this silly parking fee that I believe someone told you that it would be a great bottom line revenue driver with very little notice or backlash from your customer base.
I'm just a regular guy with a degree from a small school, but what I do remember is the 4 P's from marketing class: Price,Product,Placement Promotion.
1. Price= $10xnumber of days parking
2. Product=Paid parking
3. Placement=MGM properties
4. Promotion= The fail here is: The assumption is that this fee is to pay for parking garages and the new arena.
A possible solution that could be tweaked to satisfy your customer base and still generate revenue from people who are just in Vegas to view the sights. What if you issued a voucher or a credit to the players card that would nullify the parking fee when exiting the property once the player has earned whatever amount of points that is equal to $30 of slot play or has 1hr of table play registered on a same day visit? Again you could tweak this to work in a fair way to both sides. As a customer I would much rather lose $30-$50 in a slot or on a table while having a good time than knowing that I not only have to spend $40-$50 to leave airport parking when I get home but I had to spend the same when I get to my vacation destination.
P.S. If the CEO does not truly read the emails sent in then please pass it forward to someone who cares.
Thank you,
Rodney
