Tammy sent a message to Adam Aron – Chief Executive Officer of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. – Email Address that said:
Good Evening,
I apologize for this brief interruption in your day - however I just felt the need to reach out to you with a grievance regarding one of your Hotels. (100 Cabot Street Needham, MA)
My son has been employed thru a temp-agency for months - I know that I, as his Mother may sound biased - so I invite you to contact his direct Supervisor Elvado.
Derrick Laviolette is the employee. He worked all hours requested, he went in on days off to cover where needed. His Supervisor Elvado wanted Derrick to stay with your Hotels because he genuinely felt that Derrick was an asset to the department.
Oon Thursday (Sept. 22, 2016) Derrick was asked to come in on his day off to help set up for an upcoming event. Another employee (not a Supervisor) was dictating orders to Derrick Derrick told the gentleman that he was unaware of the orders being issued as he takes his command from his direct Supervisor.
The employee (a grown man) got his feelings hurt went to a friend of his - who just happens to be "upper management" and promptly got Derrick fired.
Elvado - Derrick's actual Supervisor was not at the office this particular day and once he discovered what had transpired he went to HR to try and get Derrick re-hired, Derrick was then told by your HR Department that "he's only an employee thru a temp agency and doesn't deserve the same courtesies as a Hotel employee".
That's a wonderful lesson from a World Wide Company to be putting out there both to prospective employees and possible guests.
An employee is an employee - regardless of whom they are hired through. If they are doing the job expected and pitching in on their days off to help out - shouldn't they receive "courtesies" just like everyone else?
I understand that you will not act upon my email will probably just send it to trash - but I will be telling my friends, family and colleagues about this event and naming names and even if I only reach one person they reach one person and so on hopefully someday your GM/HR department @ the 100 Cabot Street Needham, MA location will get the pink slip that they so deserve because they obviously have never gone through the proper training that Managers should go through and take into account an employee and their work record before firing someone because your friend got his feelings hurt and you share an office.
Sincerely,
Tammy
