I read with interest that Harley Davidson may be looking at locating outside of the US for Harley Davidson Motorcycles in the future. Our city Invercargill in the Southland Region of New Zealand would be very interested in working with Harley Davidson US to discuss the establishment of a green field Harley Davidson Plant in Invercargill. Invercargill has an aluminium smelter (low carbon footprint) , a port, has an agricultural base and primary sector https://southlandnz.com/. Invercargill and also holds the Burt Munro Motorcycle Challenge annually attended by 2500 bikers annually (The Worlds Fastest Indian was filmed in Invercargill) https://www.burtmunrochallenge.co.nz/, and has one of the largest private motorcycle collections in the world https://www.transportworld.co.nz/motorcycle-mecca/ together with the Bill Richardson Transport World https://www.transportworld.co.nz/ .
I would be more than willing with Mayor Tim Shadbolt of Invercargill to discuss this further with representatives from Harley Davidson US if the company is looking forward for new plants in the South Pacific and expansion into South East Asia. The Tiwai Aluminium Plant is driven by a hydro station. As a region we are certainly looking for new industries and investment as there is a natural alignment to our region, motorcycles and the transport sector. Complimentary to this is that Southland is one of the most attractive regions in New Zealand with a willingness to make business happen.
