Michael sent a message to Marvin R. Ellison - President of J. C. Penney Company Inc.- email address that said:
Hello,
This is just a quick message to your HR department. When you have applicants interested in becoming a member of your team please have the common courtesy to at least send a decline email message. Something to the effect of: Thanks for your interest in becoming part of our team. Due to the great interest in the available position we have had many qualified candidates respond. We have at this time chosen a candidate that more closely matches our needs. We will keep your information on file should anything come available in the future!
As a manager, I always send a thoughtful decline message, no matter how many applicants I receive. You never know who a prospective customer may be! In this day and age you can't afford to alienate even one potential customer!
Sincerely,
Michael
