Hi Peter, I am sending this direct message in the hope that you will address – Peter Agne email address

H Scott sent a message to Peter Agne President and CEO, IKEA that said:

Hi Peter,

I am sending this direct message in the hope that you will address yet another very important safety issue regarding IKEA products. I am owner of a private furniture assembley/installation company with over 25 years furniture assembly experience. I owe no allegiance to IKEA, as you have recently been trying to intimidate me into parting with my domain name (I am in the process of changing over to a new domain and business name as I have no intention of being bullied out of my business). However, I do care deeply about the safety of my customers, many of whom are also IKEA customers. They are actually the reason for the name of my company as they are the ones who first began calling me "the Ikea Guy". Your cease desist letter indicates that I in some way could be damaging your business, when in fact I and hundreds of other private companies exist because of service gaps and customer needs that you refuse to fill for your customers due to your obsession with volume and money. The issue I refer to would be for the Besta TV units and other similar units. While I am not familiar with construction in other countries, I am extremely experienced with furniture and mounting in the USA. Most interior walls here are either drywall or hollow walls. The way that you show mounting in your instruction manual for this item and similar products is absolutely NOT safe in the USA. I have had many calls from people who have attempted mounting as shown, or hired inexperienced "handymen" to do so, and have either been unable to mount them or have the units dangling precariously, ripping out of their walls. This absolutely needs to be corrected BEFORE someone dies or is seriously injured. I would also suggest that you stop trying to put professional installers out of business who have far more experience than most of your independent contractors. These units need to be hung from walls using the same suspension rails that other Besta units utilize so that they can be stud mounted in order to be safe. Rest assured I am working to make the transition from using the word IKEA within my domain and business name as quickly as possible. I am actually becoming very concerned that any perceived affiliation with IKEA could be damaging to the reputation of my fledgling, but very successful service-oriented business. I trust that you will handle this extremely important safety issue promptly, not for my benefit, but that of your customers. The calls on this product actually benefit me as I keep getting jobs because of the discrepancy in your instructions. I would be glad to give up all these jobs if it saves even one child's life.

Sincerely

H Scott
