Rita m Taliaferro sent a message to Craig Menear that said:
Dear Mr. Menear:
On the afternoon of Sunday, June 28, 2020, my husband and I stopped at the Home Depot in Absecon, NJ 08201, which is located very close to our home. We purchased a large bag of soil and 2 large trashcans. My husband set one trash can inside of the other in the cart, with the lids inside the top can. The cashier searched through the trashcans to make sure we didn't steal. She said it was her manager's rule. She made no attempt to hide the fact that she basically accusing us of theft. This was after answering the phone and having a 3 minute or so conversation while we waited for her to complete our sale. I believe we were singled out for this treatment because my husband is African-American. In hindsight, we should have walked out without making a purchase. We will never shop there again. There is a Lowe's nearby and several Ace Hardware stores where we will take our business.
Thank you.
