I am a CA native and spent 18+ years in Austin, TX, where I discovered HEB grocery stores. For more than 4 years I have been suggesting to the store manager to improve the re-usable grocery bags to no avail. He is a wonderful manager and is certainly busy doing his job well. HEB stores sells re-usable, DURABLE plastic grocery bags the SAME SIZE and dimension as the brown paper bags, (though with nice large handles), and are wonderful. Each month had a different "theme" - Halloween, Breast Cancer Awareness, Texas wildflowers, etc., and cost, I believe, $1.50 each. I purchased lots and am still using them today, five years later. They are useful for LOTS of things and plug the grocery store on the sides of the bag with the statement "Taking Care of Texas" and the grocery store name, HEB. I cannot believe that HEB is a larger company than Safeway - though possible. Why cannot Safeway take a similar, environmentally friendly, customer friendly, self-promoting action and design descent, desirable, durable bags with a Safeway "jingle" of some sort and offer them to appreciative individuals for a fair price? I would certainly purchase them and can imagine others would also, especially if they were also visually attractive. I would be delighted to show off my wonder HEB bags to anyone at Safeway who could give you feedback. Imagine having Christmas-themed bags in time for the holidays! Most people like pictures of X-Mas trees, Santa, wrapped gifts, an attractive table, candles, whatever . . . ? . . . Thank you for your thoughtful attention, CZ - aka Cezanne
